Tomorrow Is Pregnant

If you had told me years ago that I’d make it to this stage of my life, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. Not because I didn’t want it, but because too many people around me made it their mission to convince me that I wouldn’t.

Secondary school was hell for me. From SS1 to SS3, it felt like I was fighting invisible battles every day. Teachers who found joy in mocking me. A principal who never saw anything good in me. Hostel porters who treated me like I didn’t belong. And friends… friends I trusted, who turned into strangers overnight.

There were days I’d cry myself to sleep. Nights I’d stare at the ceiling and wonder what I ever did wrong to deserve so much hate and mockery. I was called names. Laughed at. Told to my face that I wouldn’t make it in life. And with every insult, a tiny part of me believed them.

But somehow, by God’s grace, I finished. And against all odds, I got admission into the university.

I remember feeling scared. Because even though I was finally out of secondary school, I was carrying the weight of everything those people made me believe about myself. And the worst part? I failed one course in 100 level. My first carryover.

The day I saw that result, I cried like a baby. Not because of the carryover itself, but because it felt like their voices were back in my head, laughing and saying, “Didn’t we tell you? You’ll never make it.”

I was ready to give up. Ready to pack my bags and disappear. But somehow — somehow — I wiped my tears, summoned courage, and went back to retake it.

And guess what? I passed.

Fast forward to now… I’m done with school. Waiting for NYSC. And some days, it still feels like life is turning against me. Like everything I want is taking too long to come. Like the world is moving and I’m stuck in one corner, watching everyone else win.

But I’ve come to realize one thing — tomorrow is pregnant.

And no matter how heavy today feels, I don’t know what tomorrow will birth. It might be my breakthrough. It might be my peace. It might be my moment of joy after all these years of tears.

So to anyone out there like me, who’s fighting silent battles, doubting themselves because of what people said, or feeling left behind — hang in there.

Tomorrow is pregnant.

And you might just wake up one day to find out that it gave birth to your miracle.
