“The Ones We Left Ourselves For”

 You know, I used to think that the hardest part about love was letting go. But lately, I’ve realized it’s the in-between. It’s those quiet, aching moments when you both know it’s falling apart, but no one wants to be the first to say it. The heaviness in conversations that used to flow so easily. The way “good morning” slowly turns to “hey” and eventually, nothing at all. No one tells you how disorienting it feels when the person who once knew you better than anyone becomes a stranger you hesitate to text. You find yourself typing out paragraphs you’ll never send, rereading old chats and wondering how you both went from we to was. I’ve had those people in my life. The ones who felt like home in a world that never made sense. The ones I allowed into parts of my soul I didn’t even know existed.
